One of the top 2023 players in the country is Nicole Melious. The New York product has the ability to score at all three levels on the floor and can put up 30 points in a hurry. Melious has the ability to be the best player on the floor even when she isn’t putting up points. She’s a tenacious defender and has a tremendous motor. You can count on Melious to be on the floor for those loose 50-50 balls more than anyone else in the game. Even though she is young, she is playing a level up on the AAU circuit with Hoopers NY 2022.
Her advanced frame and strength allow her to play with these older kids, and generally outplay them. Her AAU team usually plays up and this past weekend played with 2020’s and 2021’s where they ended up 3-1. Melious had a stellar weekend as she scored 29 points and 24 points in two games against 2020 squads. This past season she led her 8th grade team to the CYO Girl’s Championship as she scored 45 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the championship game.
Melious has already caught the attention of college coaches with her play. Even before arriving to high school she has received multiple Division I offers, with many other Division I schools interested. With her work ethic and will to succeed, you should expect this number to rise greatly over the next few years. Melious works out three times a week in the morning and 3-4 hours after school each day. With this work ethic, the sky is going to be the limit for this 8th grader.
