Top 5 Naismith Contenders for 2025 in Women's Basketball

Olivia Miles, TCU

 

She averaged 14.2 points, 6.5 assists and six rebounds per game while maintaining a career 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio across four seasons on the court at Notre Dame from 2021-25. Miles enters the 2025-26 season as the active D1 leader in career assists per game average (6.5), career assists (654) and triple doubles (six). She is also the nation's lone player with at least 1,400 career points, 600 assists and 600 rebounds. Miles leads all guards in double-doubles (25) and 15-5-5 games (24). 

Sarah Strong, UConn

 

Strong led the Huskies in rebounds (356), blocks (66) and steals (92), field goal percentage (.586) and double-doubles (12) in her rookie season. She averaged 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds last season.

Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame

 

Hidalgo is the reigning World Exposure Report National Player of the Year after shooting 40% from the 3-point line and 85% from the free throw line while averaging 23.8 points per game for the Irish in the 2024-25 campaign. She is coming off a historic season for Notre Dame, including being named an All-America First Teamer, a Wooden Award Finalist and a Naismith Player of the Year Finalist.

Mikayla Blakes, Vanderbilt

 

Blakes is coming off the most successful freshman campaign in program history. She was named World Exposure Report's National Player of the Year.

Blakes' averaged 23.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game a season ago. Her 23.3 points per game average ranked first among all NCAA Division I freshmen, while she led first-year players nationally in seven different categories. She also posted the second-highest scoring average (23.3 ppg) in a season in school history and scored the second-most points (769).

Lauren Betts, UCLA

 

Betts reigning WBCA defensive player of the year was just as good on offense, leading the Bruins with 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Her 100 blocks were also fifth-most in the country.
