Texas Longhorns is favored to capture the 2022-23 Big 12 Conference Women’s basketball title after being selected to the top spot in the WER preseason poll as voted on by the WER Poll Committee. 

Iowa State’s Ashley Joens was tabbed the WER Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year.

She is a two-time defending winner of the Cheryl Miller Award, that is given to the nation’s top small forward, Joens returns for her fifth season as a Cyclone as Iowa State’s all-time leading scorer with 2,369 career points, which also ranks her atop active players nationally. In 2021-22, Joens averaged 20.3 points per game, hitting 91 3-pointers on the season. An AP and USBWA Second Team All-American in 2021-22, Joens racked up 18 double-doubles last season.

Joining Joens on the WER All-Big 12 Preseason First Team are Lexi Donarski, Iowa State;  Emily Ryan, Iowa State; Aijha Blackwell, Baylor; Madi Williams, Oklahoma; Taylor Robertson, Oklahoma; Aaliyah Moore, Texas; Rori Harmon, Texas.

The WER Preseason Second Team All- Big 12  is comprised of Serena Sundell, Kansas State; Sonya Morris, Texas; Dre’Una Edwards, Baylor; Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, Baylor; Taiyanna Jackson, Kansas; Naomi Alnatas, Oklahoma State; Holly Kersgieter, Kansas; JJ Quinerly, West Virginia
