NICEVILLE, Fla. – In a battle between two of the nation’s top team, No. 4 Chipola came out on top with a 59-58 win over No. 1 Northwest Florida State on Saturday in Raider Arena.
The Raiders (10-1, 6-1 PC) fell behind after a sluggish second quarter in which NWF shot just 19 percent and was outscored 15-6. Trailing by eight at halftime, Northwest Florida made quick work of the deficit kicking off the second half with a 12-3 run.
The teams traded baskets until Jordan McLaughlin hit a layup with 13 second left to play to give the Indians the lead for good.
Last-Tear Poa led Northwest Florida with 14 points. Chanaya Pinto had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
As a team, Chipola shot 39.6 percent and NWF converted at a 39.1 percent clip.
With the loss, Northwest Florida had its 19-game winning streak snapped.
The Raiders look ahead to matchup at Pensacola on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
