Turner To Lead Racers Through 2023 Season
In midst of best season in over a decade, Racer head coach receives extension

In the middle of the best season for Murray State women’s basketball in over a decade, the Murray State Board of Regents has extended the contract of head coach Rechelle Turner through the end of the 2022-23 season.

With one game remaining in the 2020-21 regular season, Turner has led Murray State to its first season with both an overall and a conference record over .500 since the 2008-09 season. With an overall record of 14-10, Turner has continued improvement of the team’s winning percentage in each of her four seasons.

Anchored by 2020 All-OVC first-team selection Macey Turley and Katelyn Young, a seven-time OVC Freshman of the Week selection this season, the Racers have already qualified for next week’s OVC tournament, something Turner has done in each of her four seasons at the helm. The four-year tournament streak is the first since the four-year span between the 2009-10 seasons and 2012-13 seasons.

In just three seasons, Turner has already coached five All-OVC selections, including two first-teamers, the 2017-18 OVC Player of the Year Ke’Shunnan James and the 2018-19 OVC Freshman of the Year Turley. In addition, Turner has led the Racers to 3.13 team GPA over the past six semesters including a 3.62 in the spring of 2020 and a 3.44 last fall.
