Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List

Vivian Gray, Texas Tech
Gray, a transfer, is a two-time honorable mention All-American and has twice earned First Team All-Big 12 nods.
 
The Big 12's second-leading scorer at 19.3 points per game last season, Gray finished her junior season ranking second in the conference in minutes played (37.6 mpg), third in free-throw percentage (84.1 percent) and fifth in assist-turnover ratio (1.7). She was also ninth in the league in assist per game (3.7 apg), 13th in steals (1.6 spg), 15th in field-goal percentage (36.3 percent) and 15th in blocked shots (0.8 bpg).

Grace Berger, Indiana
Berger returns after a stellar sophomore campaign where she also earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and was a WBCA All-American honorable mention selection. The Louisville, Ky. native increased her scoring nearly eight points from her freshman campaign, finishing as the team’s second leading scorer with 13.1 points per game. Berger also added 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a team-high 1.4 steals per game while scoring in double digits 21 times. She shot 45.6 percent from the floor and 76.9 percent at the charity stripe in 2019-20. The 6-foot guard was also named to the All-Big Ten preseason team.

Taylor Soule, Boston College
Soule, as a sophomore led the team in points scored (465), offensive, defensive and total rebounds (97-148-245), double-doubles (10), free throws made and attempted (139-193).

Summer Hemphill, Buffalo
Hemphill is currently tied for 10th on UB's all-time rebounding list (759) and is nearing 1,000 career points (918). If she scores 81 or more points this season, she'll become just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.

Evina Westbrook, UConn
Westbrook appeared in all 32 games off the bench for UConn and averaged 6.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Aubrey Griffin, UConn
Griffen, had a redshirt season after transferring from Tennessee last season. As a sophomore at Tennessee (18-19), Griffen led the team with 14.9 points and 5.3 assists.

Ashley Joens, Iowa State
Joens capped off a banner sophomore season as a consensus honorable mention All-American, averaging 20.5 points and 10.9 rebounds, as the only player to average over 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. Joens, who became the first Cyclone sophomore to reach 1,000 career points, was also named a unanimous First-Team All-Big 12 selection.

Watch for her sisters to be on this list in a few years.

Rhyne Howard, Kentucky
Howard also was the 2020 SEC Player of the Year and earned first-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team honors last season while she was one of four finalists for the Citizen Naismith Trophy, recognizing the most outstanding women's college basketball player of the year. So far this preseason, Howard has been named a first-team preseason All-America honoree by Lindy's Sports.
 
The native of Cleveland, Tennessee, had a sensational sophomore season for Kentucky, leading the Wildcats and ranking second nationally with 23.4 points per game. The guard also led UK with 6.5 rebounds per game and 62 steals, while she was second on the team with 29 blocks and third on the team with 68 assists. Howard hit 84 3-pointers this season, which was the most in program history in a single season, topping the previous record of 81 set by Sara Potts in 2004-05. Her 3.1 3-pointers per game ranked top-10 nationally while her 633 total points ranked fifth nationally. Howard's 23.4 scoring average was the most for a UK player under Matthew Mitchell and the fourth-best average in program history.

Elizabeth Balogun, Louisville
Balogun can really finish around the rim and attack the basket off the bounce now. As a sophomore, she ranked fourth on the team with 8.1 points per game and tied for third with 4.6 rebounds per game.

Angel Reese, Maryland
Reese, a Baltimore native, is the No. 2 player in the country and top-ranked wing in this freshman class, according to ESPN. She is highest-ranked incoming recruit in program history. Reese was named a McDonald's All-American and averaged 18 points, 20 rebounds and five assists per game for her career. She was named Player of the Year by The Baltimore Sun after her junior and senior seasons and was also named to the USA Today First Team.

Rickea Jackson, Mississippi State
From an offensive standpoint in conference play, Jackson scored more and at a higher clip than reigning National Freshman of the Year Rhyne Howard (14.5 ppg, 42 FG%) did in 2018-19. Jackson was amed Second Team All-SEC and earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team after ranking fifth among all players with 16.5 ppg and eighth in field goal percentage (.480) during conference play.

Erica Johnson, Ohio
Johnson was on the All-MAC first team after finishing fourth in the league in points per game with a team-best 18.6. Johnson averaged 21.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in conference play.

Erin Boley, Oregon
Boley, who averaged 9.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game and shot 44.1% from three-point range last season.

Brea Beal, South Carolina
Beal is one of the best two-way players in the country. 

Haley Jones, Stanford
Jones played in the first 18 games as a freshman, making 13 starts, before being sidelined with an injury. She averaged 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, shooting 52.8 percent from the field. 

Mia Davis, Temple
Davis was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team this past season. She was also the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Year in addition to being a USBWA All-American Honorable Mention. The Baltimore native was a top-ten finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award for the 2019-20 season.

In the previous campaign Davis averaged a team-leading 18.8 points per game and 10.2 rebounds, and has posted 35 career double-doubles. She was first in the American in rebounding. Davis also led the team in minutes (35.6 per game), made field goals (213), field goal shooting percentage (47.2%), and made free throws (127).

Rennia Davis, Tennessee
Davis was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2020 as well as an All-America honorable mention recipient from the AP, USBWA and WBCA. She averaged 18.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 2019-20 while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 80.2 percent from the free throw line.
 
With a scoring average that was the best by a Lady Vol since Candace Parker put up 21.3 ppg. in 2008, Davis enters her final collegiate season tied with Bashaara Graves for 10th in UT history with 29 double-doubles during her first three seasons on Rocky Top.

Kayla Wells, Texas A&M
Wells is one of the best three-point shooters in A&M history. The sharpshooter currently holds the record for three-point field goal percentage at .393. She has registered 66 starts in her career, and is two points shy of breaking into the 1,000-point club.

Michaela Onyenwere, UCLA
She earned AP Third-Team All-America honors after leading the team with a career-high 18.9 points per game. She posted her second-straight season with 500+ points and garnered All-Conference accolades for the second time. She put up 10 double-doubles this past season, including a dominant 26 point-15 rebound performance in UCLA's victory over USC in the second round of the Pac-12 Tournament (Mar. 6). 

Ivana Raca, Wake Forest
Raca had a breakout season in her junior year for the Deacs, averaging a team high 17.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.68 assists per game. She scored 20 or more points in 11 games and was voted Second Team All ACC for the 2019-20 season. Raca also gained First Team All ACC Tournament honors, scoring 20.3 points per game over a 3 game stretch that included a monster 27 point, 13 rebound performance in a win over North Carolina in the opening round.
