Florida Gators women's basketball held its first official practice back on Oct. 14.
Gators Breakdown:
- Florida returns four starters, tied for the most Newbauer has welcomed back during his time in Gainesville.
- Last season, Newbauer helped guide the Gators to a seven-win turnaround and their first .500 finish in four years.
- Florida posted 15 wins overall in 2019-20 and doubled its SEC victory total from the season prior at six.
- After leading the team with a 15.0 points per game average, Lavender Briggs returns in 2020-21. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, becoming the first Gator to collect an SEC postseason honor since the 2016-17 season.
- Briggs, who finished in double figures in 26 of her 29 games played, helped spearhead Florida’s bounce-back campaign as she tallied the highest points per game average by a Florida rookie since the 1991-92 season.
- Nina Rickards emerged as a core contributor during her rookie season, appearing in all 30 contests and starting the final 21.
- Rickards, a sophomore from New York, shot a team-best 41.2 percent from three-point range during SEC play and finished the season with averages of 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
- As the Gators continue to build serious momentum on the recruiting trail, UF’s 2020 class features the talents of Jordyn Merritt, who was also tabbed a five-star recruit and the nation's No. 27 overall player; Merritt became the highest-ranked recruit to sign with Florida since 2013.
- UF has landed five-star recruits in back-to-back years for the first time since the 2012 and 2013 classes when Ronni Williams and Haley Lorenzen signed on with the Gators.
- National Signing Day is coming up Nov. 11
