An Orrville High School student and former star football player is being held in the Stark County Jail on felony charges.

Marquael Parks, 18, faces three felony counts of receiving stolen property, a felony count of having weapons under disability and a felony count of failure to comply with order or signal of police officer, according to court records. Parks, who turned 18 in March of this year, faces all charges as an adult.

Parks, who is listed in court records as a Massillon resident, made his initial appearance in Massillon Municipal Court on Sept. 9, where Judge Edward Elum ordered him to jail while he awaits a grand jury decision.

The Stark County Jail confirmed Parks remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

Massillon police issued an arrest warrant for Parks for a Sept. 3 incident in which he is accused of trying to flee police in a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop, according to court documents. The vehicle had been reported stolen by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and had a stolen dealer license plate from Columbus, documents said.

According to the school, Parks remains a registered student at Orrville High School, where he was set to graduate in 2021.

One of the most decorated high school players to ever play in Wayne County, Parks, a running back and defensive back, played one football game for Orrville this season, but was dismissed from the team prior to its Sept. 4 game against Tuslaw.

As a sophomore, Parks rushed for nearly 2,800 yards and scored 56 touchdowns in his 15 games. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound running back rushed for 198 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Ohio Division-III State Championship game.
