Five suspects are in custody after a dispute over rap music led to a gang-related shooting in the St. Martin community Saturday night.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said Tuesday members in rival gangs were in vehicles when a dispute over rap music led to a shooting that sent two of the suspects to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident took place near McClelland Road of Washington Avenue in the St. Martin community Saturday evening.

Two suspects were initially taken into custody Saturday, with three others arrested Monday.

Two of the suspects -- 22-year-old Tyler Polk and 21-year-old Jimon Dixon, both of Biloxi -- were teammates and stars on the St. Martin High School football team, playing their senior seasons in 2015. Polk, in fact, was Mississippi’s Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. Both would go on to play junior college football. Tyler Polk ended up playing at Pearl River CC.  Polk was a go-to target for PRCC's quarterbacks and one of the team's leading playmakers, earning a spot on the All-MACJC Second Team. Polk led PRCC with 34 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore. He also returned seven kicks for 214 yards. He completed his Wildcat career with 58 receptions, 748 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

When he signed with Davenport University, PRCC Head Coach Egger said, "He's a great kid and works hard"

Dixon played defensive line at Jones College.

Also arrested was 20-year-old Jalin Stallworth of Moss Point who was already out on bond in connection with a May 2019 incident in Moss Point in which Stallworth and another suspect were charged in a shooting that sent three people to Singing River Hospital.

Stallworth’s bond from that charge was revoked by Jackson County Judge Mark Watts.

The two other suspects arrested are Quincy Brown, 22, of Pascagoula; and Cedric Porter, 20, of Ocean Springs.

In addition to Stallworth’s prior felony charge, Porter and Dixon were charged in Jackson County with possession of marijuana in January 2019.

The shooting sent Brown and Dixon to Merit Hospital in Biloxi with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the other suspects attempted to leave the scene by carjacking a nearby vehicle. The driver was not injured.

Brown and Dixon were each charged with armed carjacking, aggravated assault and shooting at a motor vehicle, with bond set at $1.25 million each.

Stallworth was charged with aggravated assault and shooting at a motor vehicle and had bond set at $750,00, but with his prior bond revoked he is not eligible to post bond.

Polk and Porter were each charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a motor vehicle. Their bonds were set at $750,000 apiece.
