The 2020 NCAA Division 1  World Exposure  Women’s College Basketball Assistant Coach of the Year Award finalists were announced today by World Exposure Report and include Jonneshia Pineda (University of Louisville), Erik DeRoo (Abilene Christian), Neil Harrow (Troy University), and Gabe Henry (Butler University). Award winner will be announced Wednesday, March 25th.

About the finalists:
Jonneshia Pineda, University of Louisville

Pineda just finished her first season as an assistant at Louisville and her seventh year working with a Division I program. She helped lead the Cardinals to a 28-4 record in 2019-20 and the program's first ever outright Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title.

Erik DeRoo, Abilene Christian University
ACU finished top 10 in the country in points per game, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, points per possession, three-point defense, and assists per game.

He oversees PG development, including the development of three-time all-conference performer Breanna Wright, who was the 2020 Southland Conference Player of the Year. Wright finished top 8 in career points in ACU history, and is the Southland Conference’s all-time leader in free throw percentage. Wright also won Southland Tournament MVP in 2019. He has been around for a pair of titles, including the 2016-17 regular season Southland championship and the 2019 Southland Tournament title and the school’s first ever trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament.  DeRoo was instrumental in recruiting three student athletes (Katie Horyna, Alice Stevenson, and Paige Emborsky) in the World Exposure top 250 rankings this season.

Neil Harrow, Troy University

Neil Harrow entered his fifth season as an assistant coach at Troy in 2019-20. In his tenure with the Trojans Harrow has helped guide Troy to three Sun Belt Championships, 2 NCAA Tournaments and 4 postseason appearances while helping the program post an impressive 107-50 (.682). During the 2019-20 season Harrow's leadership helped guide Troy to new heights, setting program records for overall wins (25) and Sun Belt Conference victories (16) while also winning the first regular season Sun Belt crown in program history. A team poised for its third NCAA Tournament in the last five seasons went 12-1 at home and 11-3 on the road with a perfect 2-0 record in neutral site games.

Gabe Henry, Butler University

Entering a program that had won a total of just 6 games before Gabe Henry's arrival, the Butler Women’s Basketball program has been completely transformed—moving from a last place ranking in the Big East to third-place finishes the past two seasons.

In 2018-2019 the Butler Women’s basketball team experienced the deepest post-season run in their program’s history, finishing with a 23-11 overall and going to the Sweet 16 of the WNIT. After losing several key players and 76% of their scoring, the Dawgs have continued an upward trend and continue to surpass expectations. 2019-2020 saw the program finish 11-7 in Big East play for the second straight year and finished the season with 19-11 overall record. As recruiting coordinator Henry has brought in two classes ranked at the top of the Big East Conference, with the 2019 class ranking #1 in the Big East and #45 overall in NCAA Division I according to ESPN.

Gabe has been instrumental in the development of Kristen Spoyler and Oumou Toure. Both players earned postseason Big East honors after a vote  from all 10 league head coaches. Spolyar was recognized as an All-BIG EAST First Team selection while Toure landed on the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.

Spolyar ended the regular season with 535 total points, the sixth-best total in a single-season by any Bulldog. That effort pushed her career point total to 1,535, ranking her fourth on the all-time scoring list.

Spolyar leads the BIG EAST and ranks fifth in the NCAA in made free throws. She set the Butler single-season school record with 161 makes from the charity stripe.

A standout defender, Toure led the BIG EAST in steals per game (2.4) and ranks seventh among her peers in blocked shots (1.1). 36 of her team-best 63 steals came against conference opponents. She set a career-high against Purdue Fort Wayne with six, but reached five steals in a big road win at Creighton.
