Eight Finalists Named for 2020 World Exposure NJCAA Div. 1 Freshman of the Year Award

The World Exposure Report  Awards Committee announced the finalists for the prestigious World Exposure NJCAA Division 1 Freshman of the Year Award. 

The winner of the World Exposure NJCAA Freshman of the Year Award will be announced during the NJCAA National Tournament.

Kobe King-Hawae- Gillette
She is 7th in the nation for assists (178), 4th in the nation for total points (675), 11th for points per game (20.5), 16th for Defensive Rebounds (192), 2nd for total field goals (284-589). 

Danja Stafford-Eastern Arizona

She is 5th in the nation for total free throws (172-237), 3rd for offensive rebounds (189), 2nd for defensive rebounds (282), 2nd for total rebounds (471), and 22nd for blocks (56). 

Sheslanie Laureano- Florida Southwestern

She helped Florida SouthWestern earn their 2nd consecutive trip to the  NJCAA National Tournament. She averaged 15.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds for the 24-7, Bucs. 

Awa Sidibe- Salt Lake

She earned the Scenic West Player of the Week in early November. She is currently averaging 15.4 ppg and 5.6 rebs. She scored a season high 27 points against Central Arizona back on Dec. 19 and followed up the next night with a 25 point performance. Awa shared the Region 18 Player of the Year award. 

Taiyanna Jackson- Trinity Valley

Taiyanna averaged 9.6 ppg and 13.2 rpg. She is 7th in the nation for offensive rebounds (143), 3rd for defensive rebounds (278), 4th for total rebounds (421), and 6th for blocks (118). 


Chanaya Pinto- Northwest Florida State

Chanaya helped NWF claim the 2020 FCSAA Tournament Title last week with a win over Gulf Coast. She was named First Team All-Panhandle Conference and ranks 13th in the conference with 396 total points. She was named NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week by FCSAA in early February (20 pts, 11 rebs against Pensacola and 25pts, 9 rebs against Gulf Coast). 

Leah Mafua- Otero

She averaged 18.7 ppg and 7.8 rebs for Otero. She finished 32nd in the nation for points per game, 23rd in the nation for total assists (147), 37th in defensive rebounds (179). Leah earned All-Region 9 and All-Region 9 Tournament team.

Isadora Sousa- Chipola

She averaged 15.0 ppg, 6.7 rebs, and 5.7 assist this season. She finished 18th in the nation for total assists (153). She earned FCSAA Player of the Week on Jan 6th (29 points, 10 rebounds vs. FSW) and went (10 of 19) from three that voting week. In addition, she earned First Team All-Conference.
