Former NBA player indicted on sex-trafficking charge

A grand jury has brought new charges in a sex trafficking case against former NBA and University of Alabama standout Jim Farmer, who was caught in a sting last October. The initial charges were dropped for lack of probable cause.

Farmer, 55, of Franklin, TN, was arrested again after being indicted by the Rutherford County with attempted trafficking for sexual servitude, attempted solicitation of a minor and attempted patronizing of a prostitute. He was released on 100, 000 bond on Jan. 10th. 

Farmer will plead not guilty to the new charges at his next court appearance. 

According to an affidavit from the first arrest, Farmer responded to an adult escort advertisement for meeting a juvenile for sex, communicating with an undercover officer who identified herself as a 16-year-old girl. Farmer allegedly agreed to pay $170 to have  sex with the girl, and was arrested after arriving at the location on Oct. 25th.

Jim Farmer was a standout at Alabama, averaging 16.5 ppg before being selected with 20th overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1987 NBA Draft. Farmer, played for the Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Seatlle Supersonics, 76ers, and the Denver Nuggets. Then spent three years traveling on Magic Johnson's touring Dream Team.
