This is the summer for Katie Horyna the second best 2020 player in Kansas.

Katie Horyna has accomplished a lot on the court and off the court but her story is just getting started. Currently ranked No. 217 overall in the 2020 class according to World Exposure Report (2020 Rankings). She is a three-sport star participating in basketball, cross country, and track. Horyna has been named All-State in all three sports that she has participated in and has been to State in six of her eight seasons. Horyna doesn’t stop with her athletic accolades as she is a 4.0 student as well. This past High School basketball season was one for the books but Horyna is still not satisfied even after a tremendous showing this past season.

“Overall we accomplished some of our team goals going undefeated for our first twenty games,” Horyna said. “Winning the WAC, our Conference, and making it to State.  However, when we got to State we did not accomplish on what we wanted to do completely.  For my season, I had two Tournament MVPs, All Conference, Conference MVP, and Second Team All-State.  But I was not satisfied, so the day after our season ended I was already back in the gym working on my craft,  because I think I can get better in order to help my team win State next year”

With this work ethic, she should be jumping on college coaches’ radars but to this point she is just a bit under the radar. She does have a few offers  and is planning on taking a visit a school nearby soon. Horyna detailed her strengths to us and they jumped out as something that a coach would love to have. Anytime you have a coachable player, it makes the job much easier and your opportunity to win Conference Championships increase tremendously.

“My strengths are I am a good leader on and off the court leading by example and always working hard in whatever I do,” Horyna said. “I am a very coachable player always trying to do what they ask of me.  For basketball, my strengths are getting out and running in transition and my defense. After spending hours in the gym shooting this past year.  I shot 41 percent from the 3-point line this season.”

She is continuing to work on her game this summer as she is looking to get into a position to raise her stock. Something that makes her really good is her ability to change direction quickly and her ability to get to the rim against defenders.

With improvement this summer, and exposure from running with Ohlde Elite @Ohlde_Hoops, Horyna should see her stock rise consistently throughout the summer. The 5’9 point guard is efficient on the floor and off the floor she is even better. Horyna has all the intangibles to succeed at the Division 1 level.
